Corner coach appointments are typically made on a one off basis and apply only to the specific competition in question. Appointment for one competition does not imply automatic selection for subsequent events.
The final decision on corner coach appointments rests with the Guru Utama and appointed Team Managers. Decisions will be made in the best interest of the athlete, the team, and PSST as a whole.
Appointments may vary from competition to competition depending on context, athlete development priorities, and operational considerations.
To ensure athlete safety, competitive readiness, and professional representation of Perguruan Seni Silat Sendeng Teratai, the following criteria will guide the selection of corner coaches for competitions.
Corner coach appointments are not automatic and will be assessed holistically based on the needs of the athlete and the overall team deployment.
Age and Maturity
Priority will be given to individuals who demonstrate sufficient maturity, emotional regulation, and sound judgement under competitive pressure. Corner coaches must remain composed and strategic at all times.
Familiarity with the Athlete
Consideration will be given to the working relationship between the athlete and the proposed corner coach. Familiarity fosters trust, clearer communication, and better tactical coordination during matches.
Availability Across Competition Days
Preference will be given to individuals who are able to contribute consistently across most, if not all, days of the competition to ensure continuity in coaching approach and athlete support.
Knowledge of Competitive Silat Rules
Individuals must demonstrate familiarity with current competition rules and regulations. Willingness to undergo rule briefings and continuous learning is essential. Corner coaches must understand scoring criteria, penalties, protest procedures, and ring conduct expectations.
Representation and Professional Appearance
Corner coaches must be able to represent PSST with professionalism and decorum. This includes appropriate attire, neat grooming, and adherence to team image standards. Extreme or unconventional appearances, including coloured hair, will not be permitted during official competitions.
Communication Skills
The ability to deliver clear, concise, and constructive tactical instructions within short break intervals is essential.
Commitment to Athlete Welfare
The corner coach must prioritise athlete safety at all times. This includes recognising signs of fatigue, injury, emotional distress, or medical concern, and making responsible decisions in the athlete’s best interest.
Team Deployment and Operational Needs
Final appointments will also consider overall team balance, logistical deployment, and coverage across weight categories and match schedules to ensure optimal support for all athletes.
