Talent Development
Programme
The Talent Development Programme (TDP) is designed to nurture and prepare young athletes holistically so they may successfully gain entry into their desired schools, particularly into specialised sports institutions such as the Singapore Sports School, or sports-related diploma and degree programmes offered by Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs).
By combining structured athletic training with academic support and character development, the programme ensures that student-athletes are not only competition-ready but also meet the academic and personal competencies required for progression into advanced learning environments.
Pathway Preparation: Equip students with the necessary sporting, academic, and life skills to qualify for admission into sports schools and relevant higher learning programmes.
Athletic Excellence: Provide structured strength and conditioning, sport-specific skills training, and exposure to competitive opportunities.
Holistic Development: Emphasise discipline, resilience, teamwork, and leadership—qualities valued in both sports and education.
Academic Support: Offer mentoring, study support, and time management strategies to balance sporting commitments with academic requirements.
Portfolio Building: Guide students in developing athlete portfolios highlighting achievements, leadership roles, competition records, and personal statements that strengthen admission applications.

Advance Notification to the Guru
The guru/coach must be informed at least 2 years in advance of the student’s intent to pursue either the Sports School or IHL pathway.
This is to:
Allow sufficient planning of training cycles to peak at the right time (trials, competitions, portfolio building).
Provide early exposure to relevant competitions for track record building.
Align academic support and portfolio preparation with admission timelines.
Without this advance notice, the student risks missing crucial milestones (e.g. qualifying competitions, trial windows, portfolio deadlines).
